Wireless Network Connection

I need some serious help here if possible

I just restored my laptop to its original settings and now the blessed wirless network conneciton will not connect!!!!

When I first bought the laptop it automatically picked up the router on my main computer and I was off, now it says there are no networks available!!!!

I have "Local Area Conneciton", 1394 connection and Wireless Newtork Connection showing on the Nework Connections and both the local and Wireless have a red cross on them.
I have been on the main computer looking for help on this, tried what it said about setting up a wireless connection as well as entering my WEP key but it still does not work!!!

Any suggestions please!!!

Before long I will no doubt throw it across the room as I have been trying for about 3 days to get this working!!!

Plase email your suggestions if any to debbie.kirkland1@btopenworld.com

Many thanks

Hi Debbie and welcome to Club Vaio.

I know these things can be a real pain to solve. Can you give us a bit more information? Sorry if they are basic questions.

Model of VAIO?
XP or Vista?
Make and model of Router?
Is the Router set to act as a DHCP Server and is the Vaio set to use DHCP to obtain an IP Address automatically?
Try Run -> CMD and press enter. In the black command box type IPCONFIG /ALL (space between G and /) and press enter. What is the IP Address, Default Gateway, and DHCP Server?
Does it work with a wired ethernet connection?
Is the Router set to 'Broadcast SSID'?
Have you run the Network Wizard?
What Firewall are you using and have you tried turning it off?
