I have a Vaio VPCSB1X9E, I have run the crucial system scaner, bought the recomended 2 x 4GB upgrade.
Now I come to fit it, there is only 1 empty slot.
I phoned crucial, they tell me there should be 2 slots, but don't know where the second one is.
It looks to me to be built into the board, under where the empty slot is.
Before I send the 2 piece set and buy 1 x 4GB, does any one know if there is a second removable slot?
Thanks,
Glenn
Hi Glenn,
Your user manual only refers to one removable module.
ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/Manuals/Notebooks/VPCSB/SB_H_EN.pdf
Some Vaio’s have a second removable module under the keyboard but the manual usually describes how to gain access to this. As the machine is shipped with 4GB memory and you have an empty slot I assume that you just need a single 4GB module to upgrade to the 8GB max. If you are in any doubt then give Sony Support a call.
I would refer Crucial to the user manual and ask them to take back the 8GB kit and supply a single 4GB module.

Hi Rich,
Thanks for your quick reply, I will send the 8GB kit back.
Thanks,
Glenn
Hi Glenn,
I would be interested to know Crucial’s reaction to the user manual as they are not the only supplier of memory offering 8GB upgrade kits for this model.
Rich
Hi Glenn
Did it work for you with 1x4GB, and put it in the slot next to the harddrive?
To get 8GB in total!
/Emil
