Hi,
I was very surprised when I found out, that there's no (native) way to have the mousepad deactivate upon connection of an external mouse. What year is it? Several (if not all) the competing brands have had this option since.. well, I've got a 386sx Win3.1 [BIG OLD BRAND] laptop with this feature! And while we're at it, don't forget the 'deactivate the touchy-feely, but keep the mousebuttons active'-option.
I've come across a workaround (including a driver-hook wussname - perhaps Open Source?) once, but lost the link and have been unable to find it again - if anyone knows about it, please let me know.
Cheers,

Hi termtheworm,
not sure if quite what you are looking for but the following used to help with vista vaio's..
Press the windows key+R to open the Run box then type C:\Program Files\Sony\Setting Utility Series\VCCPointingDevice.exe
A Pointing device window should appear that should allow you to either enable or disable your touchpad..
If this works, you can place a shortcut to VCCPointingDevice.exe onto your desktop..
I have included a guide on the process should you wish to create a shortcut..
1. Right-click an open area on the desktop, point to New, and then click Shortcut.
2. Click Browse.
3. Goto C:\Program Files\Sony\Setting Utility Series and then select VCCPointingDevice.exe from the list of files, then click OK and then click Next.
4. Rename the shortcut to something more use friendly and click Finish.
Hi Thalamus,
vaio's..
Thx for taking the time, but I've already come across that one and it won't work - I failed to mention that I'm on Win7. At best the executable has changed it's name, but the shortcut-solution is not what I'm looking for. I wan't an automatic solution.
Or semi-automatic: If I could find a way to use the event-triggered action capability in Win7 to en-/disable the mousepad-device. But that'll take time and there's no reason for me to 'invent the wheel' if it's already been done .
Cheers,
