Viao VGN-FZ19VN Downgrade to XP Pro - Driver

Hi

Just purchased a Viao VGN-FZ19VN laptop with Vista Business installed, I need to downgrade to XP Pro to allow some of our software to work, does anyone know if there are or where I can get XP drivers for it please, as obviously the VIsta ones do not work?

Regards

Hi asj and welcome.

There are no XP Drivers or XP Utilities for the FZ-Series. If you read these forums you will find many who have tried to install XP but no-one has managed to get a fully functional laptop running under XP.

Sony have hinted that drivers and utilities may be forthcoming after testing is complete but no timescale has been given.

I do now seem to have a fully functioning VGN-FZ19VN laptop with XP and drivers installed.

I found the graphics driver from the intel site and the network card driver from the marvell website, the rest I Installed via xp's found hardware option link to the internet and having the vista driver disk in the drive, and its picked all the drivers up and it appears to be working perfectly. Pure fluke???? I'll ask the user to put the laptop through its paces and see if it keels over.

Sounds promising!

What about the Fn keys for things like Screen Brightness & Volume, AV Mode, Bluetooth, Camera, Power Management, Wireless LAN Switch etc. Are these all working?

The first thing you need to do is to re-format your hard drive into xp. But doing this will erase your vista. So be prepared for that as you will not have you recovery left on your computer from that piont on. So you will need to do a back up via recovery first. The second thing you will notice is that your s1 and s2 buttons will not work and you will not be able to install a new recovery via vaio xp as yours came with vista. Most of the drives will work via your recovery disc with you have done when you purchased your vaio.
When you go back to xp just put your vista recovery vaio disc into the slot and go into device manager and it will search for the drives from that.
Trust me i have done it a few times with no problems.
I am sure that all the drives will work onto xp....
But you have to remember you will loose some things as doing this.

Regards Aussiechris.

But email me for the drives if any problems..

It's very sad. What happend with the users of VGN-FZ distinct to 19? I hope Sony will offer drivers for all FZ serie. All yours clients have the same rights.
