VGN-Z51WG Overheating on battery power

My VGN-Z51WG has been overheating and shutting down when on battery power.  Indicator shows plenty of power available.  I have to connect the mains adaptor to start up again.

What Vaio Power Management setting are you on when on battery power?

I cannot see any Power Management updates available for your model so I would contact Vaio Suport for advice as there may be a power board or battery fault.

It may be worth downloading a utility program like PC Wizard 2010, which will show the CPU temperature.

It would require a very high CPU temperature to cause a shutdown - over 80 degC.  If this temperature is not being reached, you need to look for another reason for the crash.  Do you get any error messages and is there anything shown as an error in Event Viewer?
