VGN-C1S to Samsung 215 monitor set up?

I have been trying to hook up my Sony VGN-C1S to a Samsung 215TW monitor.I'm running XP media edition and the laptop has the "intel graphics media accelerator driver for mobile" installed.
I can only get to view the monitor at minimum screen resolution and the laptop stays at full resolution. Can I configure the outputs of each monitor separately and if so how?

I'm not sure if it works the same in XP.
