Vaio Zone and Vista, not good bedfellows!

I don't know what I'm doing wrong! Finally managed to get Vista on my V2M (and managed to ditch all the rubbish that came with it!), but I'm still getting a recurring problem with Vaio Zone.

When I open Vaio Zone and select TV -> External Input ('cause I've connected up a Sky box to the AV), I get an error message about incompatibility of screen settings. So, if I go into the screen settings in Vista and go from 32bit to 16bit Vaio Zone will let me watch the TV! BUT, and this is a BIG but, all down the right hand side of the screen the picture is blurred. It's kind of like when you get grease on your windscreen and try and wipe it off. You understand?

I followed Sony's install guide to the letter and installed all new updated, Vista-compatible software, but it's just not happening. I could probably just cope with the changing from 32bit to 16bit, but the blurring is just too bad to actually watch anything!

Never had any trouble with Vaio Zone under XP. I did try and re-install the old XP version, but it insisted on my having XP installed!

I was wondering if I should try Media Centre? If I did, would the Sony remote work with it? Has anyone tried it? I really want to be able to use the RC.

Any suggestions?

Cheers,
Ex.

From trying different media programs (not WMC) like WinDVD the remote has never worked for me, only with VAIO Zone unfortunately which is a bugger because VAIO Zone won't play DVD's at the moment.

Good luck fixing it.

Probably because it clashes with Windows Media Centre which is part of Vista?
I don't think Sony make VAIO-Zone any more.

Kee-Lo, nice to see you; thought you'd left?

Anyho, I did a streamlined vLite Vista install and so removed Media Centre (or Center, depending on where you live!) and it's still doing it.

I have searched around for a version of Vaio Zone and I think you're probably right about Sony not making it any more, as I'll be darned if I can find a copy. The loss of TV is pushing me back in the direction of XP...

I pop in from time to time to help people.

XP is probably the best move, after all Vista is just a poor version of XP, and with SP3 on the cards in Jan 08 it's not going to be unsupported for a while to come.

You're a top bloke Kee-Lo, glad you're not gone for good!

SP3 eh? Didn't know about that. Well, if that's the case then I think moving back to XP is the best idea.

Thanks for your advice.

Well I wouldn't say I was back for good, just pop in to see what's going on, what people need help with, I don't think it's fair people loose out on my skills just because a minority had no respect for me.
