vaio to hdtv connection

how do i connect my vaio vcpz1 to my hdtv, i have connected the devices with a HDMI cable, and checked the hdmi ports on the tv are working, and tried a different cable that i know works,and made sure the correct hdmi feed is selected on the tv, but the laptop cannot detect the tv. I have also tried updating my graphics card driver but for some reason i cannot update my nvidia geforce 330m graphics card driver, i download the update, but it wont install saying it cant find the device. Can anyone help?

You are restricted to the Sony provided Graphics Drivers because these include the software mechanism for switching between Speed and Stamina Modes - from nVidia to Intel Graphics.

Which exact model do you have?

Are you using Speed or Stamina Graphics?

Have you tried pressing Fn+F7?
