vaio recovery utility

hey,
i have a sony vaio vgn fs-515b
i am seriously thinkin bout changing from xp to linux but just to be safe for when things go wrong... i wanted to run the media recvory tool in order to have a backup

but for some reason it won't go any further than 60% with no warning or anything

anyone got any info
