I downgraded to xp about a week ago but later upgraded to vista again. An intresting thing i found was that my video RAM in Vista was 64 mb but in xp it was 256 mb?!. How is that so? I suppose it has something to do with my cards Hypermemory (Ati mobility radeon x2300).
I googled and found that you can increase and decrease the video ram in BIOS. But the thing is that my BIOS version hasent got an option like that. I think i need to update my BIOS to get this option or is there another solution? How do i do a clean BIOS update, what do i need to download, help me please!
The whole process is automatic in Vista and you cannot change the RAM/VRAM configuration. This option has been removed in Vista as manual changes was thought to be one of the main causes of blue screens and crashes in XP.
It is only with old graphics chips that a dedicated amount of RAM could be reserved for use as VRAM in the BIOS. I don't remember seeing this option recently.
Microsoft thinks it knows best!!!!
thanks
