Trick to prolong batery life...

Just asking for your opinion... I asked in FNAC were I bough my vaio and an expert old me that if I'am using the vaio conected to the power cord it is better to remove the battery so it is not continously charging... It has its logic. This way I only use my batery when working not conected to the power cord... Any comments?
