Terrible, terrible sound!

My first Vaio and it's a common issue with the two other Vaio owners I know - awful sound quality. Watching a DVD is a misery. Such a shame for something from Sony.

Hi - model SZ2XP. A friend has a bigger and better Vaio but alas no improvement in sound quality.

I have a VGN-FE21S and the comments about the poor sound quality-mainly volume-apply to my laptop too.
Is there a software upgrade which i can download to help fix this shortcoming?

I have only recently purchased my Vaio (AR21M). I am so disappointed with the sound quality. I purchased this model specifically because of the TV as I like to take it away in my motorhome (dual purpose computer and TV in 1 handy package). I do not think the sound quality will be up to viewing a DVD and am disgusted to have paid over £1,000 for a product to find it lacking in such a basic area. I am not that brilliant with the technicalities but does anyone have an answer.
