SZ1 & Vista, Alps Pointing Device Driver keeps popping up

I did a very successful Vista install on my SZ1XP, but the Alps Touchpad driver comes up no less than three times every restart with "The publisher could not be verified, are you sure you want to run this software". Even when I uncheck the tick "Always ask", it comes straight back. I'm using the driver off the appropriate website on here. It's driving me nuts!!!
Can anyone help? Thanks!

I have found this is a bit of a bug as i have a start up program that has the same problem (i uncheck the box and it still comes up).

Anyway the best thing to do is to stick the drivers on a CD and then reinstall the device in device manager. This tricks UAC into thinking that it is the offical drivers (it trys to block anything that is downloaded ie. drivers from the sony site).

Does this help?

Are you suggesting a complete new OS install with that? Or can that be done with my existing installation?

Try reinstalling the driver from C:\Drivers\pointing double click on Apoint.exe and the drivers should install. Reboot it and see if the message comes up again.

If this doesn't work try DPinst.exe.

Does this work?

What Version of the Alps Driver are you using?

Is it the Vista Version 7.0.501.5?

Yes, that's the one.

Worse still, now some of the Alps components end up on the list of blocked startup programs of Windows Defender. That's new as well, and probably doesn't help matters. Strange though, as Windows Defender lists the Alps driver as "Permitted".

I think I would uninstall it in Control Panel, Download a fresh Version 7.0.501.5 FROM HERE and manually install it by extracting the .zip file and following the onscreen instructions.

Yes, that's the one.
The Alps driver also gets caught by Windows Defender and gets blocked. I also cant find a way to permit the programm to be run either...
