Does anyone have the Sony α100 and if so is it any good?
There is no doubt that now Sony have dropped the price to £460, with anti-shake and with a basic kit 18-70mm lens, the DSLR-A100 represents excellent value for money. So much so that on balance it is on the PC Pro 'A-List' for best value out of all the entry level DSLR cameras - this is quite a strong recommendation.
The decision must be yours because you tend to get what you pay for in this field. If you take Value and anti-shake as your drivers this may be the camera for you - but if Image Quality is the real driver the A100 is beaten by Nikon, Cannon and even Pentax - all of which have superior Image Quality.
This Image Quality difference is not large and the Nikon D80 costs £260 more - so at the new lower price, the Sony A100 is a lot of camera for the money and an excellent purchase.
There again I may be biased as a Nikon D200 user!
Thanks for that.
Its really a toss up between the Sony mentioned above, Cannon EOS 400D or the Nikon D80, all pretty similar except in price.
When for the Sony in the end and i am really pleased with it.
I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good solid DSLR.

Well done Matt - hope you enjoy it!
We look forward to seeing a few pictures soon!!!!!
Well this is my first attempt:
Pretty good i thought.
I also decided to bite the bullet and by the 75-300mm lens to go with it and f**k me its so good (much more zoom than i actually expected).
