I have a VGN-FS 495VP
Windows XP pro installed.
Yesterday out of nowhere i got a BsoD and my computer restarted itself. BsoD said something like "unmountable_boot_device" (or similar cant really remember). The problem was that I reached the screen where I could select to start windows normally, last known configuration or various types of safe mode. No matter which one i choose i got the same BsoD and the computer kept rebooting.
Stupid as I am I didnt create a backup CD so after a while I tried using a XP Home cd I had lying around from my other laptop. Sure, it was possible to install XP Home, but I wanted to run the recovery to get all the drivers etc. Then, using another computer, I browsed this forum and found out that i could access the recovery procedure by spamming F10 at start, silly me 😞
Recovery creates the partitions and deletes all the files, BUT when it comes to the point where I have to reboot the computer to install windows it hangs up on the Windows XP startup logo. Nothing happens for like 10 minutes and then i get that "select normal mode, last known configuration, safe mode" screen. Whatever i pick its BsoD again and it restarts and I have to look at the startup logo again for 10 min.
I've tried running the recovery 3 times now and same thing every time.
Is there anything I can do to fix this?
Alternativly: Can I install a fresh copy of windows XP from a CD (like XP Home CD, uuuuh :()and still reach the drivers etc on the hidden recovery partition somehow?
I would be very grateful for any help here.
And I appologize in advance for any grammar or spelling errors, english isn't my first languge

Just so there is no confusion, these are legit versions of Windows we are talking about
Could be that the hard disk isn't working, can you do a scandisk in DOS?
Kee-Lo
I've installed XP pro from a cd now instead of the recovery partition(seeing as it didnt work). When i run scandisk it freezes on 20% of step 5 (checking free disk space). What do you make of that?
Could be a hard disk problem, you would need to find the manufacturer of the hard disk and look on their website for diagnostic tools.
