hi there,
i need some help with a problem i've got on my VGN-FS315M...
this happens on quite a few random occassions when im using my laptop - the screen just goes black for a few seconds with a eering sound (like one you would from a scratched cd)...and comes back on after a few seconds.....all of a sudden recently bout 2 weeks ago or so, whenever i play a game on my laptop, after a short while the screen goes black (with the same sound) for a long while and then restarts automatically, displaying a message saying the system has just recovered from a serious error - this now happens on every occasion i play a game on it. i then thought to disable the automatic restart option from the error recovery settings. so now when it happens instead of automatically restarting, i get the "blue screen" with quite a few messages...but what i notice is the error report on the blue screen says the fault seemed to be from the NVID4 file or something similar (which obviously leads 2 the nvidia graphic card, i supose!) - it says "it was caught in an infinte loop - so either the hardware is faulty or the software program is incorrect or faulty in a way, thus causing the hardware to misbehave.
so when the blue screen appears i have to press the power button to manually restart the system.
and by the way it uses a Nvidia geforce go 6400 graphic card
Hi benjay
what is the normal running temperature of your vaio..?
If your unsure, mobilemeter is a handy application to use..
If your vaio is getting hot you may need to first try clearing the cooling vents of dust with compressed air (you should be able to get this from your local PC shop), holding the can upright give the vents a short blast from a distance of approx. 10cm if you hold the can to close you could damage the fan..
the temperature it says, is 46 degrees...and it says HDD #0 - 40 degrees...do you think the problem will be with the temperature? coz it says on the blue screen the problem semed to be coming from the nvid4 file or something.....is that temperature too high neway?
Hi benjay
The HDD temp is a little high..
Have you tired re-installing the Original Video Drivers for your VGN-FS315M, you can download them from here
Ah the old "nv4_disp is caught in an infinite loop". Not seen this one for a while! Used to be very common.
I think this was a 3D problem with the AGP interface unable to support fast enough write speeds with some games. I don't think the Vaio BIOS allows AGP & P2P Bridge Control.
I don't think there was one solution that worked for everyone but the most successful fix was to completely uninstall the existing nVidia driver and to reinstall fresh the latest driver available.
Try reinstalling the original driver as Thalamus suggests but go to Device Manager and uninstall the existing driver first.
Expand 'Display Adapters' -> right-click on you nVidia Card -> Uninstall.
May be worth trying an updated driver from LaptopVideo2Go.com if this doesn't work.
ok so i take it i shold do the cooling thing u said in the first post...i downloaded the original drivers u linked me to...it says extract & follow the on-screen instrutions but they were none...i just extracted the zip & got 2 folders out of it...what am i gona do to install them or is that done automatically?...cheers
cheers 4 that one! sorry to be a pain tho but i cant even find device manager...i might be more clear about what to do if you like give me a sort of step by step instuctions of exatly what to do to uninstall the old drivers & install the new drivers...i've downloaded them but cant figure out how to install them or uninstall the old ones 4 that matter!...thanks 4 ur help
Hi benjay,
Which driver are you trying to install? The original or the newer one? Is it a .ZIP file or a .EXE file you have downloaded?
To get to Device Manager -
Start -> Right-click on My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager
Click on the little cross to the left of 'Display Adapters' - you should see your nVidia card listed
Right-click on it and choose 'Uninstall'
Go to your downloaded driver file and run the Setup.exe file by double clicking on it.
hi m8 i have the same laptop and mine went a little like that but i went to the sony site and downloaded the drivers installed them (by just clicking on it) and it seems to have sorted the problem out i play half-life for hours now with no problems
:smileyalien_2:
ok so i found device manager & i can manage to uninstall the drver but i dont know how to reinstall it so im not gonna do the uninstall just yet until i know how i could reinstall it...cheers again
