New machine - should there be a C & D drive? Would Sony partition the drive into two?

Hi there, just bought a supposedly brand new BX396XP.
The hard disk is 120GB but it's broken up into 2 separate drives - C & D.
My question is, would Sony send it from the factory like this or has someone been messing with it? Thanks!

Sony on recent and new computers partition the drive into 2 seprate partitions and on some machines there will be a hidden partition for backup this is factory standard

Thanks for your reply. Any idea why they do this? I've got a c & d drive and there is also a hidden partition on the c drive with the o/s on it. I would prefer the one large drive, is there any advantage in having it split into two?
