I have done a complete system recovery on a Sony VAIO VPCEB1E0E using the recovery disks I had previously burned. Now neither the wired LAN nor wireless LAN is working. Both were working fine prior to the recover!
I've ruled out router issues by conecting another PC with no problem. I've also reloaded the original drivers for both wired LAN
Marvell Yukon 88E8059 driver version 11.22.4.3
... and wireless LAN...
Atheros AR9285 driver version 8.0.0.238.
I also upgraded (Wired only) to the latest rev ...
Marvell Yukon 88E8059 driver version 11.45.3.3
...all to no avail.
Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections\Local Area Connection (right click) Diagnose reports "An Ethernet Cable is not properly plugged or might be broken".
Similarly the Wireless Network Connection Diagnose reports "None of the networks you have previously connected to are in range" after I had entered the correct SSID/WEP.
ipconfig reports...
C:\Windows\system32>ipconfig /all

Are there any recommended further diagnosis steps I should follow?
Any help much appreciated.
Hi leemkuny
Have you checked that WLAN and LAN are enabled in Vaio Smart Network?
Rich
Thanks Rich for your post.
I'm not so familiar with Vaio Smart Network. I did launch it and set up profiles one each for wired and wireless LAN. If I select "Switch Profile" to either of these I get the message "Fail to switch to <name> profile".
Also Smart Network help states "Before using VAIO Smart Network ... you need to change the network settings on your computer to connect the computer to a network"
It appears to me that Smart Network is just a front end for the network control panel that abstracts away the detail. If network control panel fails to connect to a network smart network will not fix this.
I'm still getting nowhere fast.
Liam.
Hi Liam,
You haven’t said whether LAN and WLAN are turned on in Vaio Smart Network as if turned off this will override system settings. I’m not sure which version you have but older versions look like this:
Newer versions have an obvious software switch and look like this:
Rich
Just keeping a log of where I'm at. Still failing to connect.
I've gone through everything on the VAIO support site "How to troubleshoot Wireless Network connection issues"
Nothing worked, not even LAN access in Safe Mode with networking.
I doubt it is a hardware failure as why would this occur on both wired and wireless simultaniously after a recovery!
If I reslove this
When I resolve this I'll update this post so anyone else experiencing the same does not feel the same pain as I do now!
Rich,
Sorry, I didn't answer your question ...
I've re-installed the latest version of Vaio control centre. If I click smart network Advanced Wireless LAN is on...
Sorted! at least the wireless LAN is following a BIOS upgrade from version R0230Y8 to R0300Y8.
