Knobbly things on side of keypad

Just had the most bizarre conversation about why a colleague’s teenage daughter didn't like the VAIO I had suggested:

"Don't like the knobbly things on the side of the keyboard”

It took me a while but I can only imagine she is referring to the 2 little cushion pads.

I hadn’t really considered them to be a problem????
