My last VAIO came with Norton Antivirus - once I installed it I could never get rid of it. Not once in two+ years did it appear to do anything good. Yet when I installed another virus checker it picked up lots of stuff that sounded well dodgy. But it was impossible to stop Norton running as well and slowing everything down something rotten with startup alone taking quarter of an hour.
My new VAIO AR31M came with a 60-day trial of Norton. I decided to load AVG, Spybot and a few Firefox add-ons for protection and ignore Norton. My thought was if the others don't work out I'll go back to Norton later. However, I cannot find a mechanism to stop the Norton trial box appearing every single time I boot up. Why? And you go to scheduled startup tasks and, although it's there, the option to remove it is greyed out! How do I get round this so I only run it as and when I choose?
Many thanks for suggestions...
