intermittent sticky notepad mouse.

hi everyone.i have just bought a vaio vgn-n31s.i love the styling of it but i have had trouble with a couple of things.the most irkesome one is the way the inbuilt mouse seems to drag and freeze sometimes.does anyone know a remedy for this as it is driving me bonkers.also i have run a system test on it and a lot of memory is taken up the advice was to upgrade the operating system to 64 bit as the notepad has a 64 bit processor.could anyone tell me is this neccesary and is it free to do,or is there anything i can do within the scope of the notepad to elleviate memory congestion.i am fairly new to computers so any answers should be as newbie freindly as possible.thanks

I have the same model and the same problem. Its a horrible touchpad.

Fortunately I use mostly mouse instead of touchpad so its not a huge issue for me. But its still a pain when it jumps and freezes.

As beckh has said, it seems to be a common problem. If it really annoys you, take the laptop back to the seller and ask for a replacement. It is obviously a fault.

The advice to use a 64-bit system is rubbish. Although your processor can technically use a 64-bit system, Sony do not support it, there are very few hardware drivers available and most software won't run on it. Plus you will have to buy this unusable system for several hundred pounds and buy all new software (if it is available).

Perhaps in two or three years there will be sufficient support to use a 64-bit system - it does have several performance advantages - but not yet.

1024MB of RAM is always going to be borderline with Vista. It will certainly help to increase the RAM to 2048MB at some time. You will need to buy two 1 GB memory modules. Unfortunately you only have two slots and you will probably have 2 X 512 MB modules inserted. You can always replace them both or just one at a time.
