Hi, I have a very sick VGN TX5XN that is the slowest machine in history.
I bought this from Currys yesterday 4th Aug 07 and it was the last one left in the shop. It was more an impulse buy to use on holiday rather than as a serious machine.
As it was the last one left, Currys reccomended a full system recovery to get the "just left factory" feeling.
All was going well until the Application Recovery when it came up with "windows cannot find 'c:\windows\installer\Office Assistant\Office Assistant.exe' make sure you typed the name correctly and try again"
I carried on and it installed all the files like Click to DVD etc. Once Vista had started I I installed Norton and activated Office 2003 for the trial. I noticed it was working very slow. The Update My Club Vaio would come up everytime I rebooted the machine and I found that a hell of a lot of programs would just hang.
I imported about 2,500 emails and this took over an hour to do.
I have literally spent 18 hours solid on this and ended up wanting to stab the thing.
I have decided to do a complete recovery AGAIN and as I am writing this post, the "windows cannot find 'c:\windows\installer\Office Assistant\Office Assistant.exe' make sure you typed the name correctly and try again" has just appeared again. Will I have the same problems once everything is installed again??? I thought that Vista was lightening quick.
I need HELP!!!!!!!!!!
While I am in a "new toy not working" mood, I can't believe that for £1700 the VGN TX5XN does not even have a built in mic!!!
SHOCKING
Be like no other....never a truer word said.
Yep, one more proof that SONY is no longer a good brand. Neither it makes good electronics (which still costs tons of cash though made in China... ) nor it respects its customers.
Hi joemegan6911,
welcome to Club Vaio
Was this a display model..?
If your having problems with your new vaio then it may be worth taking it back to Curry's for an exchange..

Ok, after hours and hours trwaling the many different forums on the www, I have found what appears to be a solution.
Everytime the My Club Vaio application tried to connect to the internet, which was instructed to start upon start-up, thats when the CPU was at a constant 100% and therefore draining the whole resourse and appeared to "stop" the whole machine.
I found a little ole thread on a forum with a patch for the "my club Vaio" application, I duly installed the patch, the "my club vaio" fully installed and now the CPU is running at bout 61% when idle.
Programs now open a lot faster, tasks are completed a lot faster so, for this, I am very happy.
One thing, Sony could have put a larger/faster processor in...........and a ******* mic!!!
Glad you've solved the problem joemegan6911..
