How to disabled the touchpad???

Hello,

I have a vaio VGN-FE41M running on Windows XP. I don't know how to disabled the touchpad. And I don't want to disabled it directly from the Bios because I'm sometimes using it in my bed

In the device manager, I can see the line usb mouse but the option "disabled" is not there. When it was running on Vista, there was an option in the utility. But I don't know which one was making that.

Maybe it's an utility that doesn't work on windows XP.

If someone as the solution.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Geoff,

The only way to disable the touchpad from within the operating system is via Vaio Control Center (which I assume you do not have). This is also possibly dependant on Sony utilities such as Vaio Event Service and Setting Utility Series.

I can only suggest that you try downloading and installing XP pre-installed Utilities for a similar XP model in the FE range such as the FE31M.

Be sure to create a restore point prior to installation as results from installing non specific model utilities can be unpredictable.

Hi Rich,

First of all thank you for replying so fast!

I reinstalled the vaio control center but, there was, only the usb mouse, I'm using inside. I found why after spending a few hour on the forum. When I downgraded from vista to XP, I didn't installed the proper driver for the alps pointing device. And I think, you are right and people must install the other utilities otherwise some option are missing in the vaio control center as it was for me.

Now it's done and I can configure the touchpad. Except for the vertical and horizontal scrolls. Maybe the driver I'm using is not the last one. Do you have an idea?

I'm trying to look more in the pack for the FE31M which runs normally on Windows XP. And of course I have burnt the two dvd to reinstalled Vista before doing all my tests.

Geoff.

In addition:

I read this afternoon that it is possible to create a shorcut on the desktop to enable/disable the touchpad. Or to set up one of the S1/S2 key to do it...

The problem is that I can't find anymore the topic :slight_frown: I know I need to find the path of the file and I need help for that!

Hi Geoff_33

If you type C:\Program Files\Sony\Setting Utility Series\VCCPointingDevice.exe in to Start > Run, it may allow you to either enable or disable your touchpad..

If this works you place a shortcut to VCCPointingDevice.exe onto your desktop..

I have included a guide on the process should you wish to create a shortcut..

1. Right-click an open area on the desktop, point to New, and then click Shortcut.

2. Click Browse.

3. Goto C:\Program Files\Sony\Setting Utility Series and then select VCCPointingDevice.exe from the list of files, then click OK and then click Next.

4. Rename the shortcut to something more use friendly and click Finish.

Thanks a lot Thalamus.

I did the same using the Vaio Control Center and with the path you gave me, it's working with the S2 key!
