Hi FLASH_G and welcome to the forum

A few more details would help:

1 Have you been experiencing any recent problems when booting?

2 Have you tried entering safe mode (assuming that you can get that far)

3 Have you installed any new hardware recently?

4 Any other information that may be relevant…..

EDIT: Also you model number would be helpful...

Hi FLASH_G,

My first thought is that you have a hardware problem, but this is very difficult to diagnose at distance.

Assuming that nothing is happening when you press the power button (no lights, zilch) you may have a motherboard failure. If you have a power light but boot fails, then just possibly, you may have a memory module issue. This may possibly be resolved by reseating or removing one of the modules.

Have a look here for instructions on removing/replacing modules. I suggest that you try one module in each slot, in all permutations, followed by a re-boot.

I am signing out for the night now as I have to be up at the crack of dawn, but I wish you luck and hopefully if you are still having problems then another member will pick up on this…

Hi FLASH_G,

Close the Vaio down by holding the power button down until it shuts down.
Re-boot. Does the same Boot Option screen come up?
If this is the first time this has happened, use the up/down arrow keys to select 'Start Windows Normally' and press 'Enter'.
If this doesn't work and your Vaio re-boots - try selecting 'Last Known Good Configuration' and Enter.
If this fails to open Windows, try selecting 'Safe Mode' and Enter - choose the System Restore option and restore your Vaio to a date when the Vaio was working properly.

Hi Gordon,

Hmmmmmmmm. Doesn't sound too hopeful. Does the screen go Blue just before it reboots itself?

Have you created a set of Recovery Discs for the FS?

I think you have three options: -

1. Borrow a Windows XP Pro installation disc from someone and we will try to fix it when you have the disc. It is all legal, we will just use the Recovery Console from the disc.

2. If you have Recovery Discs, you can do a Drive C:\ Recovery. Unfortunately you will lose everything on your C:\ drive which will go back to the condition when you bought it. You will have to re-load all updates and other software you have added. The only good news is that anything on your D:\ drive will be retained.

3. Do a Complete Recovery to Factory Settings (if you have not created Recovery Discs). This is the same as 2. but it will also destroy everything on the D:\ drive.

I recommend 1.!!!!!!

Do you know someone with a XP Pro disc?
