Hi Geoff and welcome,

For licensing rerasons, Sony are not permitted to offer a download of the Blu Ray software. Intervideo will only permit distribution as part of the preinstalled Sony Operating System.

You have two alternatives: -

1. Return your Vaio to Vista using the Recovery Discs/Recovery Centre/F10 and then reinstall Windows 7 as an UPGRADE. This will retain your original software. This assumes an upgrade path is allowed to the version of Windows 7 you have chosen.

2. Buy your own version of the Blu-Ray software - such as WinDVD 10 PLUS or PowerDVD ULTRA. I am not sure if any free software is available - you may like to look and see if VLC Player can play some Blu-Ray discs.

Good Luck

Hi

I've upgraded my VGN-AW21S to Windows 7 Pro, so the upgrade path from Vista Home Premium was not available. I understand that I lost the WinDVD player that came as OEM.

I have since installed a 30-day trial version of WinDVD 2010, but it will not play bluray movies. The error message is "Media not supported". Other media plays fine. The drive is listed as MATSHITA BD-MLT UJ230AS ATA Device.

Any pointers on what to try next? How do I do know that I have all necessary drivers installed?

Hi rrolmega,

I have since installed a 30-day trial version of WinDVD 2010, but it will not play bluray movies.

From what I can tell the WinDVD 2010 30 Day Trial doesn't support Blu-ray..:smileyconfused:

Have you tried PowerDVD.?

There is a trial here - Power DVD trial

Well, I realized how many programs I have to reinstall with a clean Win7 install and gave up. Restored my Vaio to previous state, and upgraded to Win7 Home Premium.

Not sure if it was the right decision, it seems to maintain the same slugglishness I had with Vista. But it does play Blu-ray!
