My new VGN=FE31Z notebook will not start up unless I remove the battery and the ac power, as suggested in the Troubleshooting booklet supplied with the system. I do not want to have to do this several times a day. What action can I take to get it to start normally?

Has you had this problem since your Vaio was new or has it only started recently..?

There is a possibility that you are experiencing power surges for some reason and the system is therefore entering a security mode.
I suggest, if possible, you try connecting your notebook at another location, preferably not local to you, to see whether you experience the same problem.
You could also try running on battery alone as this would eliminate the AC power surge theory.
