We need to know the model of your computer.

Some on-line memory retailers have a "memory Finder".

Feed in your model number and it will tell you the right ram and cost.

EG. Crucial Memory

I just bought a 512mb memory upgrade (from PC world..I was in a hurry). It was explaiend that sincemy computer (RX405) had DDR SDRAM, I should buy the same.
It also appears that there are a number of speeds, PC2100 and PC2700. 9I bought the latter). I was told that the memory will run at the slower speed of any memory modules installed.

A very tight fit getting to the memory slot (only 2 slots in this machine). But machine is better now. Win XP uses up almost all of the original 256mb once a couple of applications are open and running (Internet explorer, Outlook, word).

Now running with about 550mb spare capacity.

PC World

I bet that set you back a fair few pounds more then you needed to !!

The only thing with buying the faster memory type is that you have paid for better performance and limited it by your setup.
Personally, I would have gone for the same type, saved a few pounds on the difference.

Yep, not a good idea to buy RAM in PC World, as its a lot more expensive than anywhere else.

Crucial are the best, next day delivery too
