Clicking harddisk sound FE11S sequel

Now just like a lot of Vaio FE11S users I had the clicking sound where my hardisk is. People who suggest it is the hardisk working, please save me the trouble of telling 100 times it is not the harddisk working sound. I had enough laptops to know the difference.

Now what I would like to know is if there has been anyone who send his/her laptop to Sony back to let them check it out. If yes, I ofcourse would really like to know what sony told you or what you did eventually. It seems to me nobody knows the solution. I did call sony and told them everything about the problem. They said it was something wich is new to them. I gave them the club-vaio link where people posted about the same problem. This coming week I am going to send my laptop to sony, this clicking sound disturbs me a lot.

I know that there are previous threads about this Old thread about clicking sound link , but I wanted to post a sequal where people could post their experience and opinion. Please don't suggest me to open up my harddisk or laptop, and once again it is NOT the harddisk working sound.

What happens: "The hard disk makes irregularly a clicking sound which is pretty loud two. Most certainly is not a working sound. It sounds like something is hitting the plastic of the laptop or something else. When I shut down my laptop and restart the sound is gone for a while." I personally think it has something to do with the reading arm. The clicking sound appears always when the laptop is not working. It's like when the harddisk is not working it cant get into the resting position, and keep on trying. I hope sony is going to spend serious time on this problem, especially it seems to be a common problem.

Important suggestions and remarks of others:

hard drive is made by fujitsu & they have a diagnostic software tool on the fujitsu web site & when i ran it, the program said no hard drive found on laptop, i spoke to fujitsu & they said i should wait for later version of software to come out, which i will do! anyone who goes to fujitsu web site, the version i tryed is 6.40

This is the response I have received from Fujitsu regarding the issue: We connected this drive MHV2160BT to our analyser and installed Windows XP Pro, we did not hear any obvious clicking noise unless you place your ear next to the drive so it is very quiet even though this does go into sleep mode at around every 4-10 seconds (idle). I would investigate if you can further into the specifications and configurations fitting of your Sony Laptop.

According to Sony e-support, responding to a case i opened, the firmware will be available on vaio link as soon as possible...

i got a vgn-ar11m and maybe a similar problem. the clicking appeared twice and vanished after rebooting. got the notebook for 2 weeks now. it also has a fujitsu hard drive 160 gb. however, i was not able to download the clicking file. could someone be so kind to upload it again, maybe youtube or putfile (or any other link that works)?

thanks, thalamus. now i got it. yes, it is the sound i had. so it definately is the fault of the fujitsu drive, as i have a different notebook. anyone else with an vgn-ar11m having the same problem?
now i think what to do. the sound only came twice. should i wait and hope that it won't come back? or return it immediately? hm...

hello guys, I'm another MAD & unhappy owner of fe11s from Greece too. Sony first told me to restore than to uninstall norton security and ofcourse this hasn't fixed the problem. after 2 months of calling them and reopening my case again & again ,they answered to my demand of sending it to them "do not to send it to sony "& if they find a solution they will contact me by mail. Used to be a Sony product lover but as a friend wrote earlier to this post  I'll never buy again anything from them- not even batteries!!!

Myself also I wasted a whole lot of the money and had a whole lot of inconvinience for nothing appauling.

I don't believe they are still selling this model after so many miffed customers...

they take the money and run and before you know it you'll be out of warranty like myself having recieved no resolution.

Their service charges are extortionate and even £12.00 for a phone call for technical support. They've sickened me and I know look for alternative brands. I'll never again buy Sony.

Hey all!

I have the same problem. I have a FE21M though, but the same harddrive.

I've beel talking to Vaio support about the problem and I've got the answer that there is a BIOS Update. They will send me a disc with the update shortly, and I will come with an update later it that solves the problem!

i did a bios update, for the vgn-ar11m it was available on the sony update site. it didn't change the problem.
however, i decided to give my notebook back today. it's too expensive to have problems from the very beginning. ordered myself a dell. it looks terrible, but i don't care anymore. main thing is good function and good support.
so that was my last thread on vaio forum.
