Hello,
I bought my VAIO VGN-FE28H in December 2006 and as soon as possible I ordered the "Sony Vaio Vista Home Premium Express Upgrade (Moduslink)" which was offered via the VAIO website. The installation from the 3 discs (clean upgrade) made no problem. All is fine, the only problem is, that I see no way to capture video clips from the inbuilt camera (e.g. into Premiere Elements). What do I have to do to manage this? This feature I really need under Vista.
By the way:
Earlier this year SONY/VAIO provided via their vista updates download site:
VAIO Camera Capture Utility Download Version : 2.0.00.13100 Size : 12.19 MB ( 2/22/2007 11:02:40 AM )
Later this was replaced by:
VAIO Camera Utility Download Version : 2.0.00.11140 Size : 4.9 MB ( 5/14/2007 11:13:31 AM )
Curious that the version number of the latter version is lower than the version number of the earlier version.
Curious also that the file size of the latter version is less than half as big as the file size of the earlier version.
Could it have something to do with that?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Kind Regards
Hi,
The confusion is because they are two different applications!! The latest versions are: -
1. VAIO Camera Utility 2.0.00.11140
2. VAIO Camera Capture Utility 2.2.01.04100
In XP Vaios only had a version of the VAIO Camera Utility installed - this allows you to change the camera settings and is used in Skype and other IM programs.
With Vista, the Camera Capture Utility was added to capture video or still images for use in other applications - when you open the VCCU the VCU also opens to allow camera adjustment.
You need both and you need to use the VCCU to capture video/pics.

Good question.
The VCCU updates only seen to available for models that came with Vista preinstalled (FE41, AR31 etc. These models had the VCCU installed with Vista at the Sony factory.
I don't know if it was Sony's intention to provide it with the Express Upgrade discs or not - who knows as things were pretty confused then. It is possible that Sony decided to release VCCU as a Vaio Update rather than on the discs. Could be that they did not intend releasing it at all to pre-Vista Vaios - and you would then need to find another program to capture Video. There are several freeware programs if you Google.
The link I gave you was from the FE41 Downloads Page - if this update will not install you will need to download the Original Utilities for the FE41 from that page, Extract the files and run 'Utils Installer VAIO Camera Capture Utility' and update it if necessary.
I only have a Vaio which came with Vista preinstalled so I don't know what was in the Express Upgrade discs. By opening VAIO Camera Capture Utility in 'All Programs' a window opens that allows me to capture Video Clips or Still Pictures from the Onboard Magic Eye Camera.
Thanks, theoretically good ideas, but don't you think it's risky to use utilities which were meant for the FE4... series for a FE2... Vaio? (... though the hardware is VERY similar!)
I don't want to worsen my system, cause it would take days to install and set all up again.
(Is someone here who had the same problem with a FE2... Vaio?)
