Can anyone help ?
I have a vaio laptop VGN-FE31Z that came with the operating system MS XP Media Edition.
I am trying to install some software but the drive does not recognize the disks.
The disks are with the format CDFS and the drive when I right click is Type CD.
Any help would be much appreciated as trying to get support from Sony is a complete waste of time.
Hi mickwozzy,
welcome to Club Vaio..
Right Click on the Computer desktop icon and select Properties..
In the new System window Click on Device Manager..
Click Continue on the Use Account Window..
Expand CD/DVD drives
Do you have a warning icon, if so what is listed in the Device Status box.?
Hi Thalamus,
It says device is working properly.
The device is a MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-850S (Just for reference)
When I go into explorer and right click on the dvd drive and properties it says
Type CD Drive
File system unkown
Try in the same location Thalamus described reinstalling the drivers also buy a CD drive cleaner from a computer shop and use it as little as possble.
Hi TonyBeard,
Thanks for your response
I have tried the obvious and still nothing.
The device does read cd's but not dvd's.
I have just tried that now again, so it can't be down to a dirty drive.
?
Regards
Mick
Hi Guys,
I forgot to mention that the drive will play dvd films. It is just the dvd's with data it won't respond to.
