Hi,
Please I have a Sony Vaio laptop model PCG-SRX51P/B and the original iLINK DVD/CDRom is BAD. I want to run my recovery CDs and My USB CDRom and my PCcard CDRom won't boot (the order is right in BIOS)I have tried a few things but none ever worked.
Is there anyway I could force my laptop to boot from the external CDROM (PC
card) or (USB)?
Any help U can provide me with will be appreciated.
Please let me know ASAP.
Thanks.
Hi edorem and welcome to Club Vaio.
That sounds like a rare Vaio!!
You cannot boot from a USB device. Some Vaios did boot from a PC Card connected cd drive but I'm not sure if ths is an option in your BIOS. Probably not as most Vaios only have one boot option apart from HDD.
No sure what to suggest here - you can download your User Guide here: -
ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/Manuals/Notebooks/SR/SRX51PB/SRX51PB_H_UK.pdf
You can also download your Software Guide which deals with recovering the system from the CDs from here: -
ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/Manuals/Notebooks/SR/SRX51PB/SRX51PB_S_UK.pdf
Unfortunately, they don't seem to deal with your particular problem - and replaceing the CD Drive looks VERY expensive: -

Hi,
My SONY VAIO LAPTOP (Model PCG-SRX51/B) Uses has PhoenixBIOS Setup Utility and Boot options are:
CD-ROM Drives
Removable Drives
Hard Drive
Network Boot
Please Help Help Help Help me. Any help at all to enable me install the Recovery Cds from PCCard or USB CDRom will be appreciated.
I Really need to get my laptop working
Thanks.
Think you're going to need to find a replacement for the original CD drive you had. Otherwise you could try putting a network boot, but you'd have to have an empty drive with just the contents of the disks on there.
Please, What is the use of having the Removable Drive Boot Option, if I cannot boot from removable drives?
Does anybody have any idea
Please Please Please help help help.
Thanks.
