Media Streamer SMP-N200 - Can't view new folders

I store my videos on an external hard disk (a WD Live Duo).  Mostly the the streamer connects fine and streams without any problems.  However recently, it has refused to recognise new folders or files, almost as though it is looking at an old 'view' of the folder structure on the exernal drive.

Also, it has recently stopped recognising files with the MP4 extension, and will only find ones ending M4V.

Cany anyone help please?

Hi there

Im assuming here that you have connected the WD Live Duo to your home network, and not directly. So, are you able to view these folders over your network via a PC/Laptop?  If not, you will need to check the permissions on those folders.

Yes, it is connected via the home network. There is one main folder in
which I keep my movies, with a subfolder for each movie. All have the same
permissions (I've checked). Occasionally, it would take the streamer a
couple of days to 'find' a new folder, but now it has simply stopped finding
new folders at all. So, I can look down the list and see the folder above
and below the new one, but not the new one.



The additional problem is that it has stopped recognising files with an MP4
extension, and will only recognise files with M4V extensions. So files I've
streamed before from the same locations now say "There is no playable file".



Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi there

A few things to try on the SMP-N200:

1. Can you confirm that you have the latest firmware installed (Setup > Network Update)
2. If so, try performing a factory reset (Setup > Resetting) - The configure it back up again. 
3. If that still fails to resolve the problem.  Try copying a MP4 file onto a USB drive, and test if it plays directly off that USB drive.  If it works, then its something to do with your NAS. 
4. Have you rebooted your NAS recently?
