KDL-40WE663 picture quality questions

Hi,

A couple of questions about picture quality please. First of all, whenever we use any of the built-in apps like Netflix or Amazon Prime Video, as soon as we click into the app it's as if the backlight setting changes / gets a lot brighter such that the screen / image then seems washed out. The contrast seems to change / get less (brighter). It's very annoying and ruins the viewing. I've been through all the settings and can't see anything to change this. I've restored to factory defaults to no avail.

Secondly, and related. We always seem to get a lot of problems with blacks not graduating well as they move to lighter colours - sorry don't know the technical term but we get distinct bands of different shades of black, like halos, rather than a smooth transition. Again, tried different settings but to no avail. Input is mostly from a Sky HD box via HDMI but also via in-built apps like Netflix (via ethernet). If you could give me some pointers that would be great. Many thanks

Hi,

Regarding Netflix: Please try to select a different colour space - this should improve the viewing quality.

Regarding Halos: Please try to reduce the Advanced contrast enhancer level.

Both settings can be found in the advanced picture settings.

Cheers
Peter

Thanks Peer, I'll give them a go - but I'm curious as to why the apps cause
this behaviour in the first place / what can be done to stop it. It
doesn't seem to be just Netflix, but also Amazon Prime (as and when the
damn app works) - these are the only 2 apps I regularly use but will test
others, and I don't see why i should need to change colour spaces each time
I change from "normal" viewing to app based...

Have you tried using the Action Menu button to change settings for the specific content you're watching too?
