Have KDL-40HX723 & KDL-24EX320 both bought 2012. Neither returns to 4:3 format after adverts, have to reset aspect manually each time.
Screen format options available are: Wide Zoom, Normal, Full, Zoom, 14:9, Captions.
I have to set them to Normal to use 4:3 (either film or old TV prog), during adverts it goes to Full, then flicks to Wide Zoom on return to programme.
Also have an old Bravia which recognises 4:3 perfectly and goes to 4/3 setting in Screen Format options. Don't the new versions cater for 4:3?
Can anyone help?

Hi there
1 - Press the blue HOME button on remote control
2 - Scroll across and find the "Settings" option
3 - Scroll up and find "Display" and click OK on the remote control
4 - Scroll down and find "Screen" and click OK on the remote control
5 - Set the following
Target Inputs = Common
Screen Format = Full
Auto Format = On
4:3 Default = Normal
Display Area = Normal
6 - Repeat for Target Inputs = Current
7 - Once done, return back to TV to test.
It works for me on my NX723.
Hope it works for you too.
Good Luck

Sorry - should have said "correct answer". Thanks Quinnicus, brilliant and clear instructions - I'd missed the settings for "Common". Wish I had your attention to detail!
Mike
Not a problem. Your Welcome.
