Yellow tint

Anyone else have a yellow tint on their display?? I have it quite bad on the bottom of the display and both left and right hand edges of display running from top to bottom. Is it possible with a firmware update that this issue could be eliminated. J had read on one forum that ICS update SHOULD solve it. Something to do with the colour calibration. I have also heard that it could be to do with colour temperature of screen,  or the glue that was used to put display together.

Any advice would be gladly appreciated as this is ruining my experience with this device.

Hi,

I bought this phone around 3 weeks ago in Hong Kong. And then I brought it to Vancouver, Canada. I discovered yellow tint few days ago. If I want to repair or replace the phone, I think I have to send the phone back to the local service center in Hong Kong and pay the postage fee myself? It doesn't make sense to me.

Be honest, I've never thought the QC of this phone is so poor by Sony. For this ridiculous high defect rate, I think all customers around the world should have free replacement/repair service instead of the customers pay for themselves.

I totally agree. I just red the Warranty manual and it states that the warranty in not tied to the country but to the region the phone was purchased in. It lists an example if the phone was purchased in Turkey and is also availabe in Switzerland you could service it in Switzerland.

It is somewhat misleading,

I need to ship my phone to Hong Kong as well but reading here and on ther formums XDA, EASTO and GSM Arena a lot of people have shipped the phone to the service centers and were told that teh parts will not be in for another 2 to 3 weeks.

A big letdown from Sony (Ericsson). Had my Sony Tablet S for over 6 months now with no issues at all but the XP S is driving me insane.

Sonys statment that only a limited number was effected cannot be true because people all around the world are having the yellow tint problem.

Hi Guys,

I live in the UK, and i just got my replacement of my Xperia S from my phone network by them doing a doorstep swap which was great, meant i didnt have to actually send off my phone to get fixed. I just got a brand new one, and so far so good, looks like sony have definatly fixed it now! Slightly_smiling_Face

Seems like the network companies are much easier to get a replacement rather then going through sony.... as sony needs you to send in the phone in... :S

HI,

I totally agree with you, and i also got almost the same experience. I think there is only l limited no of phone are affected not affected.

By the time , i got a meaningless response from the manager of the service hotline ," at this moment , there is no stock of spare parts and no product recall plan right now, but you can keep your phone in repair centre and wait for repairment"

Anyway, will anyone use HK$4988 to but a faulty new phone and keep in service centre and waiting for repair for more then 3 weeks???

In the situation, i had report this case to Apple daily (local newspaper) and set up page in facebook, any one got the same problem, please search"Sony Xperia S screen Problem" in facebook or get some help from apple daily, hot line: 29290000. Let's joint our voice, may be we should consult the consumer council in HK.

Guys I got a quick question. Does the yellow tint stay after it reaches back to roughly 27c? I know it appears after it reaches to 40c+, but what about afterwards?

Thanks

I have two S's imported from HK to the USA.  Both suffer from screen issues.  Mine however gets the edge yellow and bright yellow spot in the lower righthand corner from just browsing the web for a minute and getting the phone up to around 28C which is in sharp contrast to the 40C+ statement from Sony.  I was told from Sony support that I would have to get it fixed in Hong Kong as it "hasn't been released in the United States, yet."

So if you owned Sony how would you handle the new screen production?  Would you put them in phones that are badly needed to ship to carriers who have contracted orders or would you kindly give them to service centers to replace the screens at a huge cost to the company for the suckers who already have the phone (and not their money anymore)?

I think what we should all do is post on all the xperia s reviews on the internet in the comments section about our problems with the screen as a deterrent to anyone considering picking up this phone.

And if you (as in Sony) think i'm lying about the yellow screen at low temps, i'll gladly trade a youtube video of it as proof for two replacement phones.

Hi Markus,

Could you Please Answer,

How can Only Some XPERIA S can have this problem, when countries from all over the world are registering this issue.

If they are only some that means, one production line specific in which problem occures or the shipment of some countries have issues.

But from below link you will see that people from most of the countries are having this issue..

Please give us some clear picture, So We could decide on purchase or wait until some solution is provided by SONY.

IT WILL BE MY FIRST SMARTPHONE EVER....I don't want to take chances..

BaD Service from Sony. Why do we even have to wait for replacement display to arrive when it's their manufacturing mistake? They expect us consumer to wait for the new display yet they are still selling the model. Shouldn't they be recalling all the affected unit and doing a replacement for it instead of just swapping out the faulty display? Have to endure the unsightly tinted screen for another 2 weeks before the replacement screen will arrive. REAL BAD. Slightly_frowning_Face
