Yellow tint

Anyone else have a yellow tint on their display?? I have it quite bad on the bottom of the display and both left and right hand edges of display running from top to bottom. Is it possible with a firmware update that this issue could be eliminated. J had read on one forum that ICS update SHOULD solve it. Something to do with the colour calibration. I have also heard that it could be to do with colour temperature of screen,  or the glue that was used to put display together.

Any advice would be gladly appreciated as this is ruining my experience with this device.

Hi Mr.Sony,

I did not buy the phone in Vietnam so do I have warranty in Vietnam?

The Sony Service Center said that I have to be charged 185 USD for the new display because I do not have warranty.it is Experia S,the same with in Vietnam, your product. How come I will be charged???Please anwser me ASAP,if they charge me,Experia S will be the last Sony product for sure.Thank you and have a nice day.

Agree. We bought sony's first phone in  places where it is not lauched because we thought SONY will not produce defective products or at least would be responsble for its own fault.  Sony might feel embarrased if it has to recall its first phone, but if sony let us (the ones who took the risk to purchase Sony without warranty) pay for the defective parts that Sony produced, I promise this will be the last Sony product I ll ever buy and I will suggest others not buying Sony if there are better options out there.

It is my birthday today, 5th April. Before that, my Xperia S was in sony mobile service center for 4 days, and i didn't have any phone. Today, i decided to buy microsim adapter and the message i received from sony mobile service center singapore "This is to inform you there will be a delay due to pending parts, estimate 7-14 working days, will call once ready. Thank you." What is this? Before i sent in my phone for repair, I asked the sony staff, "do you have the spare parts? If you don't, i'll not repair it now because i need the phone."

The staff said, "Yes we do have spare parts now, you'll be receiving your phone at minimum 3 working days, latest before Good Friday, which is 6th April."

Happily, i handed in my phone and according to what she said, i should be receiving my xperia S today, my birthday!

Good Lord Sony. You let me down again and again!

you're producing something that doesn't meet the standard, your quality assurance doesn't meet the standard, and you don't even know how to begin a message with "We apologize or ...sorry for the incovenience?"

I emailed to Sony mobile singapore, there's even no reply now.

Yes, very disappointing indeed!

My gut feeling tells me the actual situation is that all the Xperia S units are prone to having resulted in this screen defect generically.

With 342 DPI display backed by BRAVIA engine for bright and vivid contrast, the heat generation will be more intensive and this requires a more capable heat dissipation that can catch up. For SONY to tackle this issue by tweaking the firmware that controls the LCD, I guess, they'll just have to reduce the brightness limit, etc, in such a way that would reduce the heat output overall. In a way, fixing it this way may result in a poorer overall screen outlook.

In terms of hardware, if it is the "glue" (or something) that is creating this yellowish/brownish tint, it is all in the assembly technique of this device (or, at least, the screen). If SONY were to replace the screen for all the affected units, I'm afraid, it would eventually be all the Xperia S produced (if every single user complained). It would be a great loss for SONY in terms of cost, too. If SONY just replaces it with another LCD unit of the same kind, I suspect the issue could come back again at a later time!

It's a good move that SONY admitted the existence of this issue, however, they have made it look good on-paper by saying it's "limited" to a certain number of units only. Anyway, it's up to SONY to strategically decide what they want to announce. I just wanna get back my Xperia S as quickly as possible as I'm paying for my data plan (my backup Nokia C3 is not adequate for 3G use). My birthday is 25/04 and I'm not sure if I'll be getting it by then.

It's so unfortunate that SONY bravely implemented this beautiful 342 DPI screen without foreseeing this disastrous side-effect. After all, it won't sell if it were not due to this lovely screen display (the transparent bar is less important IMO).

Sigh...

Yes, A big disappointment there!

How is your Xperia S now? Has it got repaired from the service center?

I have the same gut feelings towards the overheat issue of Xperia S too. Things just don't look so simple with just the yellow tint or glue problem of the screen. It seems more than that.

I posted a long message regarding my first Xperia S about 3 weeks back. That handset was terrible. Faults were everywhere, dead pixels, yellow patches and...the strangest thing of all was, the handset somewhat deformed and it expanded at the bottom, making it look like a "fat bottom, narrow shoulder" kind of phone.

Apparently, i noticed that this also happened to my 2nd Xperia S (which is now in the service center) as well. It showed up slowly after days of usage.

I can't be sure whether this is the optical illusion due to the transparent antenna which expands up to the edges of the phone, making the bottom transparent antenna area looks like it is without edges and forever expanding, this kind of optical illusion if you understand what i mean.

Anyway, thought that I could at least produce some flashes with my xperia S today for my birthday.

But things are getting hopeless now.

Get a much anticipated phone by waiting for a few months, follow everything closely, leaked news, CES and MWC.....got it finally when it was first launched....after 3 days, dissappointemnet, terrible experience, went back and forth to service center, emails, phone calls....after much effort, finally got a new one and praying everyday it would be fine....and then send it back again to service center...have to wait another 14 more days now...

It is really ridiculous to buy a phone and then you use it for less than a week or so and then you can't use it for a months? and then who knows what will happen next yes?

Sony, my mind tells me forgiveness is the greatest thing of all but things don't look right really. :'(

Disappointing screen plus super-frustrating customer service in Hong Kong.

My XS also has a thick yellow frame around the screen which appears gradually after 5 mins use. The responsiveness of the screen and capacitive buttons is terrible. Obviously there is a big QC problem with the company, but the after-sales service is an even worse problem in Hong Kong.

First of all, as there's no Sony Mobile Hong Kong website at the moment, i just got the number of the customer service centre, no one answered and no one called back after i called and left my contact for many times. Then I phoned the customer service hotline of SONY HK, unbelieveably, the CS officer said they have no relationship with SONY Mobile, and they only sell Xperia phones in the sonystyle shops like other retailers, and there's nothing he could do to help, and goodbye.

I went to the ONLY service center in Kowloon. The staff told me that they have already used up the first lot of spare Xperia S screens and I have to wait until April 20 or later for the second lot. She is not sure at the moment if they have enough screen to replace mine after the arrival of the second lot of spare screens, as there are still SOME people waiting in the queue in front of me. Rediculous! Obviously, the information in the official response you posted before was a bit too "conservative" or the term "a limited number" is actually misleading.

It is absolutely not reasonable for me or us to wait for the poor remedial plan after paying for a phone with a faulty screen!

It should not happen again and I do not know from where this person got this information.

We are replacing the displays with new ones that do not have this issue. Either this or the phone will be swapped to a new one (if e.g. spare parts are not available).

What do you think about this forum? Let us know by doing this short survey.

Spare parts are NOT available now, would you please let your company know the situation and arrange a phone callback/replacement as soon as possible? My XS screen's terrible touch responsiveness and yellow stain really get me down and ruined the first half of my Easter holiday. I've been a fan of Xperia since Pureness, dun make me feel like I got shafted by SONY without Ericsson's long noble reputation for quality.

Hi there,

I bought the phone from around 2 weeks, yesterday I noticed the yellow tint on the bottom and on the both sides of the screen, I called the service centre

(Dubai) and asked me: "did u try to restart it?", oh really? I told him this is a known issue for the

Xperia S  so he figured out that I'm not new to such issues, so he told me to send it to their service centre but he claimed that Sony didn't inform them about this matter nor about the replacement program, can anybody give me the link to Sony mobile official response on this issue? thanks 4 everybody in this forum.

By the way I also put the phone on charger (just before I notice the yellow tint) when I woke up I found the phone was off!, did anybody faced the same?

I enjoyed the phone really but when this comes very fast it makes me angry!
