Yellow tint

Anyone else have a yellow tint on their display?? I have it quite bad on the bottom of the display and both left and right hand edges of display running from top to bottom. Is it possible with a firmware update that this issue could be eliminated. J had read on one forum that ICS update SHOULD solve it. Something to do with the colour calibration. I have also heard that it could be to do with colour temperature of screen,  or the glue that was used to put display together.

Any advice would be gladly appreciated as this is ruining my experience with this device.

Hi djingga,

I've already sent in my xperia S to junction 8.

How is your xperia S now? Does the replacement of a new screeen solves the yellow patch issues completely? Please let me know.

I am in the same shoes as you are. Phone from Hong Kong but customer service told me that the phone can not be fixed in the US since it is not availabe in the US. No parts for it.

I was told that my only option would be to mail the phone to Hong Kong for repair.

So I contacted Sony costumer service in Hong Kong and was told to dropo it of at the servicecenter. LOL.

What a mess this has become. There are people complaining on every major webite about yellow tint on the screen but Sony is claiming that it is a small number of phones. It sure does not seam like it.

I sure hope that I can get my XP S repaired or replaced. But the chances are slim, very slim.

I think you have to check your warranty in the box. It's likely that that warranty service is under Hongkong and you can only get your phone repair for free in hong kong only.

It would be otherwise if the warranty is "international warranty." which doesn't seem to be the case.

Yes, i have made an exchange for my first xperia S because it was defective, dead pixels, yellow spots, unresponsive and frequently crashed. The second xperia S i have has the same yellow spots issue. It is now in service center, sigh!  Sony's quality is really questionable.

Hi Markus,

A few mobile review website like cnet and gsmarena has posted that Sony Mobile has finally admitted that some limited numbers of Xperia S have indeed manufacturing defects in their screen, mainly generation of  yellow spots when the temperature of the phone gets higher. Sony mobile has however, corrected the manufacturing process.

In review to this problem, may I ask if Sony will replace the faulty xperia S with a completely defective free new Xperia S or just the replacement of the screen?

In gsmarena.com, it says "Furthermore, the company has promised a free replacement device for all affected consumers out there."

My xperia s now is in the service center in singapore. I would request a new handset from the service center if the above turns out to be true.

Bring the phone to a service center and they will replace the display at no cost.

If you bought the phone in Hongkong you will not have a valid warranty in US, meaning you will indeed have to pay for this.

As I posted last week (Friday) when we released the official response to this problem:

Any affected display will be replaced or the complete phone will be exchanged/swapped. I guess it depends on both availability of spare parts and the extend of damage on the display/phone.

I phoned up my phone company I got the phone from and asked for the handset to be exchanged and apparently they don't have any in stock because sony have recalled the handsets is that true?
