Xperia SP INCREDIBLY slow after new update

I updated my SP like normal, and as soon as it booted, it is so much slower than it was before, can someone please help me to fix this, or help me return it back to the older version of android, where it was fine?

Thanks in advance.

Yesterday I turned on TalkBack text-to-speech feature and Xperia SP became almost useless (extremely slow). Very bad experience. I hardly managed to turn it off and re-take control of my mobile phone.

Here are my findings:

  • When using stamina mode phone is really slow responding when screen comes from standby. When putting it to normal mode this is way better.
  • First day(s) battery drain, does get better though
  • Overall performance improvement is better.
  • Applications relying on data from internet start quite slow (both on 4G and Wifi), but a little better then previous update I think.

Summary, nice update but not 100% there yet (will also try Sus update), hope Sony will make a next bugfix as well.

Ok, I am here for some serious suggestions here. I really like the phone and would like it to function well so i can stick with it for a year atleast. so here are the things sony may like to consider for next update (God! please let there be a next update). Ok here goes:

I think its the UI that is slowing things down, so sony should give an option to use the device without the UI. Or they should scrap it all together for sake of performance.

Chrome Browser seems to be too resource intensive for the device, so please use a lighter browser or atleast let the users uninstall it.

Viber keeps on crashing and messing with the other apps. work on that , please.

Camera takes a lot of time in going to picture preview. please make it faster. and please improve picture quality and videoo quality.

let the user take control of app updates. they seem to be updating themselves even when i have turned the automatic update off, especially the sony components.

Battery performance was much better before the bug fixing update. Device performance is now better but the sacrifice of battery timing is not proportional to  increase in performance.

ok thats all i can think for now. will get back with more, if any.

Hi,

I agree that Xperia Home (UI) seems  to slow it down - I use Nova Launcher which makes things better. Don't like chrome mobile, I use UC Browser on the phone which works reasonably fast.

The camera app was bad on 4.3 before the bug fix, and it's still v1.0, so I've not gone back to it after flashing 1.201, I suspect it is flawed and use 'Camera ICS' which starts up quickly.

Regarding battery performance; I'm still trying to find the best settings. To now I get the best results with Stamina Mode enabled and not turning any of the 'radios' off, so leaving wi-fi, bluetooth etc running. A soft start every couple of days helps. The sony brightness handler must be an afterthought - I'm sold on Velis Auto Brightness and although it takes a little time to set up it converts the display from a dull washed-out dissapointment into a vibrant display.

A great phone ruined by an update.....I am gutted!!! It freezes, hangs, camera takes ions to launch, programs crash, keyboard lags, tried restarting phone ( even takes ages to boot up) are sony going to sort out these gliches or is it going to be another ps3 situation?

Mine is unusable as a phone after updating. The messages freeze and don't fully load. The phonebook has serious lag too. Tried reset, which is a huge pain. Extremely disappointed with Sony. Will return to Samsung Galaxy. The lack of support is abysmal.

Ok, here i am again, and i am just trying get the phone that i liked back. I have observed a few other bugs that i would like to point out. I hope sony is listening so here goes the short list:

1 - While on call, when the screen is turned off by the proximity sensor, the touch doesnt deactivate and it keeps on getting inputs if face is in contact with the screen. I dont know whats the logic in other phones but i think the touch screen should not take input while the screen is turned off by the proximity sensor.

2 - Viber keeps on crashing and messing with the other apps. I dont know if its viber's fault or sony, but hope it gets fixed.

3 - Battery is now draining much faster than before, It keeps on draining max use is by the Phone service and android system.

4 - camera app take too long to launch, to go to preview, to come back from preview, and the soft buttons are just sluggish in camera mode.

5 - pressing the camera hard key doesnt take the phone out of the preview mode, and this and the point above make taking couple of back to back photos impossible.

Thats it for now. looking to you sony for the right thing to do.
