Hi, there,
I bought my Sony Xperia J back in August and it worked fine until a few weeks ago. A few things are happening:
1. I noticed that more often than not phone calls I receive go stratight to voicemail, even though I have plenty of signal, etc. I have checked the information settings within each contact and no contact is set to 'go straight to voicemail'.
2. I also have trouble making calls too. When I go into Contacts I have to keep tapping the name quite a few times before it calls that person, The area I press will flash so it knows I am pressing it but it doesn't seem to register too quickly. I downloaded an app called 'Pure Contact', from which I can call people once I assign certain contacts to it. But even then I still sometimes have trouble calling, although it's not as bad as doing it the normal way.
Also, when I manually dail numbers that aren't saved, I press 'Call' but the number I just dialed then disappears and the cursor is still flashing waiting for me to enter a number! I have to re-enter the number and press 'Call' several times before it will actually call!
3. The proximity sensor doesn't seem to work properly. When I'm on a call the screen will go black but somehow I still end up pressing all sorts of things with my ear/cheeck. I've made sure the phone stays where it is but it still happens. I've done that sensory test and is says that it's on and working fine. Clearly it isn't.
Can someone help me because this is driving me insane
Solved! Go to Solution.
You should reinstall it, apps will be deleted and you have to redownload them, just back them up with "backup & restore" this will create a list of apps and will re-download them. As for whatsapp

I've had issues with whatsapp, I recomend that you look for another whatsapp backup option on the playstore
I use SMS Backup+ to backup my
SMS, MMS, Call Logs, Whatsapp, etc on my Gmail
Repair your phone with SUS or PCC, if that doesn't work, take it to a Sony repair center

Hi,
Thank you for your response.
My phone is telling me that I have the latest updates, but I downloaded the Update Service that you mentioned and it's saying I can re-sintall the software. Should I do that? I have backed up files and contacts and whatnot before I do that, but what about apps? Will they be deleted? I espceially want to keep my Whatsapp messages but I don't know how to save them. I don't have an SD card or anything so at the moment it's all just saved on the internal stoarge.

Right, I have done what you said and I have backed up everything. I'm just installing the update now so we'll see what happens. I shall let you know if it worked, and hopefully other users can benefit from this too
Thank you for your help, it worked perfectly! All the issues I listed are now working properly
I'd like to add that the only thing I needed to back up were my contacts and texts. All my photos were still there! Also, I needn't have backed up my Whatsapp conversations as when I reinstalled it, it said it found them and then asked if I wanted to restore them. Brilliant! The photos and Whatsapp conversations were only stored on my internal memory as I don't have an SD Card, so reinstalling the software doesn't seem to touch it But to be safe, I would still recommend that people back up everything just incase. We all now how technology can be
Anyway, many many thanks!
