Xperia Go: Wrong/No cover for mp3 files in Walkman

Hello,

I have an Xperia Go (under ICS) and around 850 mp3 files with a cover embedded in each of them (I used easytag to put attach them).

When I use PowerAmp, it shows me all mp3 with the right cover (the one embedded in the mp3 file). Good!

But I prefer the user interface of the Walkman application (the default one provide with the Xperia Go) and would like to use it.

But around 80% of the mp3 files are displayed with the default gray cover...

So:

1- How Walkman determine the cover?

2- Is there a parameter to force it to use the cover of the mp3 file instead of I don't know what (like PowerAmp)?

Note that I had a playlist of 10 mp3 files which was well displayed (each of them has its own cover) but since I tried to modify the cover of one of them manually with the walkman application, only this file is displayed with a cover (thje one I selected in walkman) and the nine others are displayed now with a gray cover!?!

3- Is there a way to tell Walkman to reset it cover cache?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I like a lot my Go so would like to get all of the advantages it has!

Bye.

OK, I found the solution!!!!

To clean the cache of the Walkman application, I deleted the following folders (only one of them did not clean the cache):

/sdcard/Android/data/com.android.providers.media/albumthumbs

/sdcard/Android/data/com/sonyericsson.music

After that, when I open the album list of the Walkman application, I can see that it is scanning all album to find covers and it is using the one embedded in mp3 files.

Note: I seems also that Walkman is looking in its cache if a cover is already known for an album based on the album title and the album artist (two tags of mp3 files) so to be sure it works, pay attention that there is no more mp3 with no cover in them because if they are the first scanned for an album/artist couple, all the song will use the same cover which is no cover!!!

Hope it helps other people. Now I have my 843 mp3 files displayed with the right cover without downloading them from Internet!!!

Bye and thanks for all.

Hmm, could you please check which version of the ID3 tag that's used for one file that is working and one that's not?

All this is stored in the ID3 tags of the songs and I suspect that you might have different versions on the songs.

Hi,

thanks for your help.

I'm trying to find a software which could tell me what are the tags used for each files (to see if I have more than one and which versions).

On the other hand, could you give me the requirements for the Walmkan application please?:

- which ID3 tag versions can it read?

- can it read UTF8 encoded tags?

- which characters are supported?

...

thanks in advance.

Okey. Use Mp3tag for windows. It is the best app for tagging mp3s as I know. Its freeware too.

Download: http://www.mp3tag.de/en/download.html

You can change the tag, cover and everything.

As I know, Sony Walkman can read UTF8 Tags, almost every characters are useable too.

Ok, I tried it (MP3tag) and it tell me that all of my MP3 have an ID3v2.4 tag (and only this one).

It can see all of my embedded covers.

So, since MP3tag and EasyTag can see the covers, I guess MP3 files are OK.

I tried something: I put all of my MP3s in a new folder on my SD card and Walkman application have detected more covers. Not all but much more...

So I'm pretty sure it is using a mp3 database somewhere in the Xperia Go memory and if I could clean it, I guess it would solve the issue.

Thanks!:smileyhappy:

.. just to note, I had to stop the "music process" in the settings-> task section (restart might also be ok)

I have the folder  sdcard/Android/data/com.sonyericcson.gallery/cache/local-album-cache , which contents I also deleted
