To enable OTG in the phone you need the LiveDock accessory, can't guarantee that it will work with just a generic cable. With the LiveDock I've tried using pendrives up to 32gb and it worked just fine.

Try using a powered USB Hub.

@samuel - So is it not possible to access the USB through OTG without the Live Dock Accessory???

@miltos --can you provide me a ebay link to buy one ..are you sure with a Hub it would work ??

I cannot guarantee it will work with the Hub. I tried with this adapter but it didn't work, even with the USB Hub connected to the Wall. Weird, but the usbotg service was running.

Anyway, here's a link if you want a USB Hub with external power.

Edit: I just saw that you're having a Power Consumption Error, i should work if the Hub can provide power. Mine doesn't even recognize any USB Drives with the adapter. Oh and i tried with an Xperia P, not an S.

Hi I have an OTG cable (30V). I have used it successfully on my XPeria S with a wireless MK300 Logitech keyboard and mouse. Also I have used a 16GB pendrive. However I cannot access to my external hard drive 1TB (NTFS) even with its own power source. Also I have tried to use a not powered USB hub without success (Power consumption message in the phone). I tried using a Y-cable (as in depicted in this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33743742&postcount=4 but still I don't get response. Please if you can give a hint I would appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

PS. my phone is not rooted

Have you tried with the external power on the HDD AND an External Powered USB hub?
Also the Phone only reads in FAT32. For NTFS you will need this (also needs root):

Well, if you are rooted try this out!

first off, dowload from google play these two apps:

Terminal Emulator:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jackpal.androidterm&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsM...

Script Manager:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=os.tools.scriptmanager&feature=search_result#?t=W251bG...

after u install the terminal, open it, and run this command below, but while doing this the usb flash drive should be already pugged in to OTG usb cable

the command:

su

echo 1 > /sys/bus/usb/devices/1-1/bConfigurationValue

it worked for me without any problem, i just plugged in an ipod (4gb) and i got the same USB Power Consumption Error but this was before performing this command!

so, for script manager app, is to make this command as a widget so anytime u plug ur usb drive u just need to run this command, but since it'd be as a widget, its only one click, and u don't need to do all the work from the start! Winking_Face

so, it should work fine for u! make sure your phone is rooted so this command work properly in your phone, and good luck Slightly_smiling_Face
