Problem starting update (5 step part on 2:prepare)

I am having great problems starting the update. I get to the 5 stage part as shown in the image below. On the fifth stage with the volume down button is where the phone fails to connect. After two or three attempts of this i get a message pop up comfirming connection problems and recommending new steps. After following these it still fails. I have tried using different USB ports and trying on different days yet this is inconclusive.

When I press down volume key on the 5th stage, whilst following the instructions, when turning the phone on I get the charging screen you see when the phone is not on. The update does not commence.

This situation is becoming rather fustrating due to the messages that appear from PC companion about the new android update and me not personally being able to upgrade.

I hope this is of help and that you can swiftly respond to help me resolve this problem.

Hello Adam, since you have tried other PC's and you are taking the right steps please try this:

The cable might not be making a good connection so try it with another Micro USB compatible Data cable.

Most android and non Android phones use this type of cable so it should not be difficult to find.

In my experience The cable is the main culprit but sometimes the PC just doesn't have the proper drivers, especially if its not a Win7 machine.

Let me know what happens.

Try this:

First make sure the Phone is OFF.

Then Press and hold the Volume down key before and after you connect the cable to the phone.

Don't let go of the Volume down key at any moment or the process will fail.

Keep holding the key down until Pc companion tells you that either the update has started or that "you don't need to hold the key during the update"

That is what I have tried to do and it just doesnt work, I get the charge screen followed by a message confirming that the connection failed. This occurs when holding down the volume down key

Hi There,

so far i have tried 5 diffrent cables ; diffrent USB ports ; PC Companion and SUS app and still bugged in the same page as shown in this ticket for 6 hours now been trying.

what else can i do?

cannot sony make OTA update as other brands ?!!

we are being punished to be loyal to you and this is really annoying :S

Big updates are not released OTA,until now,1-2 updates were released OTA from Sony,the rest via PC.Reinstall PC companion,enable usb debugging mode in developer options and redo the procedure.
