mobile data traffic

HI - I've just started using mobile phones. I have turned off the 'mobile data traffic' because I plan on using mostly wifi. I need to know if I will still recieve text messages and telephone calls. It seems to me that I won't, but I thought I would ask. Thanks, Scott
