Emails on my Xperia SP

I have just changed over from a Blackberry, where my emails came through automatically , but my SP doesn't seem to do that. If I want to read my emails I have to press the refresh button which is driving me mad. WHY? What have I done or not done. I am not a tech phob, but would like this phone to be more user friendly, before I take it back and replace it with a blackberry

Which email app? go to the email app settings and check the syncing settings,

Hi uliwooly, I have looked at the sync setting and the last time it synced was 12:42, so I have done it manually is this correct?

Well if you set it to manual sync you are not going to be notified as soon as you get an email.

It is not on manual but set at every 5 mins, but it doesn't seem to bring in the emails without me pressing the refresh button every time I open the email box.
