Charging my Xperia P via TV USB Port

Hi folks,

I own my Xperia P now for 2 years. I'm still satisfied with it's abilities and have no need for a more actual model. Still I detect new features, that make me so happy....lately I ordered an original Sony DK21 Docking Station for my device, the real one with integrated HDMI port.

Everything works fine, I connect the docking station via HDMI to a Samsung Smart TV, AND!!! I connect the USB port with that same TV. The TV's USB port supplies 5V and 1000mA current.

Now my question: Is it possible that the battery in my Xperia P suffers from this kind of charging via TV USB port for I do no longer use the original charging unit, that was delivered with my mobile, and does it make sense to let the battery go to "low energy" before recharging it, or doesn't it matter if I connect and charge the battery, while it still has ~ 70% or 80%.

Thanks for any information

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

No it should not harm / cause any damage to your phone. And it's no problem to connect the phone to the charger when you have ~70-80% left of the battery.

Thank you so much Hampus :smileysmileythumbsup:

One more question about the HDMI port. As far as I know the HDMI port supports a resolution of 1080p to a connected display. My TV has a FullHD 1080p display, but the resulution of the Xperia P is only shown as 720p. Any explanation? Is the Xperia P output signal only 720p or do I have to do any specific setting? Have already tried all 3 HDMI ports of the TV, but get only 720p resolution.

Thanks again Slightly_smiling_Face

edit:

OK..found in another thread the service menu number *#*#7378423#*#*. TV out settings can be changed, but it doesn't matter...settings will always return to 720p, so I think there's no other resolution possible.

It is like you said, that Xperia P only supports 720p output via HDMI. So there are no settings for this.
