Can't turn on Wi-Fi...

Okay, I've had a dodgy 24 hours with my Xperia S. It lost Wi-Fi - the on/off slider is "greyed out" and can't be turned on and no networks are visible, even though there are plenty. I've rebooted and reinstalled, but it's still not working. I hadn't installed any new software or apps recently so it can't be that.

Any clues?

Good job I'm on a unlimited tariff or I'd be done for.

There's no other way but to bring your unit to the Service Center

Been fighting with the same problem for over two weeks as the prior to last comment says it is HW.

I'm positive about it because I did spank my Xperia S phone a couple of times, rebooted it and turned it on to get the wifi working again, still is not solved as it goes to disabled again.

Completely frustrating as I don't have data plan, I'm taking it to the support center.

I'll update you guys if I get a positive solution from them.

I had the same problem.

But I menaged to fix it.

Go to service menu

type *#*#7378423#*#* in call box.

Go to service test >> WLAN test

First I had a freeze but after reeboot somehow wifi started to work!!!

Hello everyone,

I know how pity it is to have a wifi-button having been "greyed out." I've tried a lot of tests too before I became successful in making the button function again. I do hope the following simple steps will work on your Sony phones.

1. Check your phone if it has a reset hole, usually found at the back side. Find any tiny material that will fit that hole and do the reset. It will just take a minute.

2. Once your phone is turned on, go to service menu and type *#*#7378423#*#*. Automatically, it will flash some options. Click on Service Test, then WLAN test.

3. Turn Off your phone to refresh the settings.

4. Turn it on, and voila! You will be flooded with notifications from your mobile apps. This means that your wi-fi is now active.
