Okay, I've had a dodgy 24 hours with my Xperia S. It lost Wi-Fi - the on/off slider is "greyed out" and can't be turned on and no networks are visible, even though there are plenty. I've rebooted and reinstalled, but it's still not working. I hadn't installed any new software or apps recently so it can't be that.
Any clues?
Good job I'm on a unlimited tariff or I'd be done for.
It's strange that the problem remains after a software reinstall.- I suggest that you contact your local support team to have your phone fixed at an repair center.

it's a big problem, i don't know why sony support team don't accept that this problem exists. i think it's becuse they all use other phone brand maybe iphone :smileylaugh:. and for you do these following steps to solve this problem:
1. when you want to restart your phone be sure that your WiFi, bluetooth, data are turned off. this will prevent this problem happens.
2. if you restart your phone with wifi-on, after pwering on you will see that your wifi doen't work. then let your phone to boots up and tap the wifi button just once to turn off the wifi. you will see that it won't work (it will turn to gray) but dont worry. just restart the phone again and you will see that your wifi is turend off. if it doesn't try this procedore to see wifi turn-off after restart.
3. now turn it on and enjoy !!!
you dear sony support team just restart your xperia phone (ICS) and see what happens. but if you use xperias !!!
Sorry matey. Doesn't work. And worse of all, my phone has now got the dreaded reboot loop problem.
No takers? The reboot problem isn't as bad but still no wifi.
Okay I take it I'm on my own with this one. Great.
You're not on your own ... my daughter is gutted - she has exactly the same problem ... no wifi and wifi button greyed out
We've done everything you can imagine to try and fix this - from complete reset / factory restore, Update / reset using Sony Companion, even lent the phone (Sony Experia S LT26i) to a friend who is a mobile phone 'expert' ...
Upshot is, that last firmware upgrade appears to have knackered the phone!
If anybody has a fix for this, without needing a degree in mobile 'phone technology, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let us know!
Thanks in advance
Simon
Have you tried a repair but not via PCC but SUS found here
Failing that you can manually downgrade and you don't need a degree, full instructions are here with software needed (Ignore the title it's the process you need) and fimware files can be found here scroll to post 2 and click on in red ICS for Ice Cream Sandwich or JB for version 6.2.B.0.200 and GB is for Gingerbread
I have the exact same problem: wifi won't turn on, grayed out slider, on my Xperia S with the newest software. I don't have a degree in mobile technology but I do work with electronics. I noticed that if you watch the menu, the phone is actually trying to turn on the wifi and it's failing. Based on this, my assumption is that it's a hardware problem. I think the wifi chip is no longer connected internally for some reason (too many drops?) If you do a quick settings reset which doesn't delete any photos or music or anything, it just resets the basic system settings, it turns the wifi off and you'll notice that the slider is no longer grey. Luckily I have an unlimited data subscription but it's not as fast as wifi and for a device that's less than 2 years old and was treated well, I'm very upset.
If anyone with this exact problem takes it to a service center and has any luck, please update this thread.
sorry amigo, doesn't work with mine! Any more suggestions?
