UPDATED TO REFLECT CHANGES NOTICED IN 6.2.B.1.96
This is an Bugs Review / Update / and comparison from what I could find in my experience with the Xperia Acro S on Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean.
For the record I recently updated mine from version 6.1.A.2.45 (4.0.4) to 6.2.B.0.200 (4.1.2)
But I keep my wife's Acro S on 6.1.A.2.55 to better contrast the difference and bugs... NOW WE ARE BOTH AT 6.2.B.1.96
Also, notice that changes made are at the end of each bullet point in color... Green meaning is fixed, orange somewhat not Sony's fault, does not apply as bug or a workaround is available, and red is trouble.
So this comparison will be focused on those Bugs, and I will also comment on the new features and the ones that were left out.
1) Camera / Album / Gallery
1.1) Error message of "Internal Memory Error".
SEEMS TO BE FIXED ON JB. BUT I HAVE YET TO TAKE LOTS OF PICTURES TO REPRODUCE ERROR AGAIN.
1.2) 3D Multi-angle pictures are saved twice.
THIS FEATURE SEEM TO BE REMOVE FOR THE JELLY BEAN UPDATE.
1.3) If I open a picture straight from the view finder, many times when I zoom in, it shows black squares as if there were patches missing from it.
THIS SEEMS TO BE FIXED
1.4) Sometimes when sliding to the next picture in Album or Zooming by double tap, the picture jumps outside of the screen area.
THIS WAS FIXED. NOW THE ALBUM IS SMOOTH AND RESPOND BETTER
1.5) Selecting a sharing option from Album should remember the application used to share. But every time I have to reopen the full list to find the app of my choice... (other phones keep the selection next to the 3-connected-dots sharing button) This phone resets that selection.
THIS WAS FIXED. THE MOST USED APP FOR SHARE GOES AT THE TOP.
1.6) While Quick Launch is an awesome feature, it does not work if I halfpress the shutter and then press completely... I have to press all the way quickly...
THIS WAS FIXED
2) Music
2.1) It is not common, but sometimes the music skips maybe due to load by other applications running.
HAS NOT HAPPENED AGAIN ON JB. GOOGLE CHROME TAKES HUGE CHUNKS OF RAM AND FORCE CLOSES OTHER APPS INCLUDING WALKMAN
2.2) Sometimes music does not resume once again after it was pause by apps such as received call, opening the camera.
THIS IS APP DEPENDENT AND IT ACTS BETTER. NOW WE CAN KEEP THE MUSIC PLAYING WHILE TAKING PICTURES EVEN IF THE SHUTTER SOUND IS ON.
2.3) Music interrupts when receiving a SMS, GTalk and while receiving instructions from Waze. But it works fine without interruption when receiving a Whatsapp message. This might be an Android problem unrelated to Sony's software.
THIS MIGHT BE AN ANDROID ISSUE.
3) Miscellaneous
3.1) Currently the Power Saver app resets its configuration after a phone reboot, so this makes it utterly unusable. This problem is found on other Xperia models.
THIS WAS REPLACED BY EXTENDED MODE. ASSUMED FIXED
3.2) Sometimes the Infinity view of contacts does not display all icons, specially when viewing a contact shortcut in Homescreen.
THIS WAS FIXED AND THE DESIGN IS DIFFERENT
3.3) This model is not able to display battery percentage natively, but the Xperia Advance can... And it is a native feature of ICS
FIXED
3.4) Lock Screen Wallpaper does not show, it only shows the same wallpaper chose on homescreen. No matter if I try to change it.
THIS IS STILL PRESENT. IF YOU HAVE SECURITY FOR YOUR PHONE SUCH AS FACE UNLOCK OR PATTERN LOCK IT WILL NOT DISPLAY A LOCK WALLPAPER NOR WILL HAVE THE MUSIC CONTROLS UNLESS MUSIC IS PLAYING.
3.5) By using a standard BT keyboard, there is a lack of key combinations, and when using arrows to select "Settings" from the notification bar, it is not able to do so. The only way to select "Settings" with a keyboard is from the App Drawer
NOW KEYBOARDS ARE NATIVELY SUPPORTED BUT THERE IS NO SUPPORT FOR WINDOWS KEY, F1-12, PRINT SCREEN... SO YOU BETTER GET AN ANDROID KEYBOARD INSTEAD. NOTIFICATION BAR IS SELECTABLE BY KEYBOARD, BUT RECENT APPS IS NOT.
3.6) Sometimes when getting a call, the slider is not responsive. The solution is to hit Power button off and on. This might be an Android problem.
THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED YET
3.7) There have been a couple of times when the Accelerometer is not responsive. And accessing to the Service Menu, it shows no values for X, Y and Z. Solution is to reboot phone.
POSSIBLE HARDWARE PROBLEM OF MY UNIT
3.8) Even though there is values changing in Service test for Ambient light sensor, I see LITTLE change when using the phone.
AMBIENT LIGHT SENSOR WORKS BUT IT DOES NOT CHANGE DRAMATICALLY SO IS DIFFICULT TO PERCEIVE...
3.9) Even though description and MENU shows WiFi Direct as a feature, there is no way to activate it. But the Xperia Go has it in connection settings... So we are stuck with slow transfers via Bluetooth...
NO WIFI DIRECT STILL... VERY DISAPPOINTING
3.10) Most Mouse I have tried have only left click functionality and scroll... and the right and middle click, makes the same left click. Logically it should allow for a "menu" click, and/or a "back" click...
STILL PRESENT... ALL BUTTONS ON THE MOUSE DO THE SAME LEFT CLICK FUNCTION
3.11) Now this is a minor complain, and probably hardware related... but touches near the edge of the screen are registered to the extreme edge... almost like forcing the touch to the edge... making difficult to select taps slightly separated from the edge.
THIS IS PRESENT. PROBABLY HARDWARE RELATED.
NOW THIS ARE IMPORTANT NEW FEATURES FOUND (SONY RELATED). AND ALSO LEFT OUT FROM PREVIOUS VERSION. AND FINALLY NEW BUGS
NEW
NOT ANYMORE
NEW BUGS
I hope this can be useful to Sony and other Xperia Acro S users...
Thanks
Diego.
Solved! Go to Solution.
Recent update to .96 fixed most problems in Jelly Bean for my Acro S...
Thanks Sony for the support to this models.
You just re-gain a fan, and look forward to buy Z1 or similar...
Can you try plugging in your sony xperia earphone and pressing the volume up button for me? I'm having the problem where when I plugged in my earphone, the volume up button become unresponsive. I want to know whether it is just me or everyone else with the JB update having this problem. It is not in your list. Thanks
Yes, I try that out before posting this, because of all the people who post this issue... Nevertheless I did not find that problem with my device, but I will make sure to try it on my wife's Acro S after I upgrade hers...
I know some people, not just you have that issue, but I can't reproduce it on my device.
So far the only 2 bugs... I have found are the ones at the bottom of my post...
Video Recording... specially 1080p and some bluetooth connection problems... where I have to turn BT off on my Acro S and back ON again in order to re-connect to a Keyboard after I lost its signal... (The keyboard is design to quickly switch from a BT device to another, and when I try to connect back to my Acro S, it keeps trying but failing to connect.)
I will not update my wife Acro S until video recording is fixed... cause I want at least a good recorder in my home to be able to rec my 2 y/o boy
Well to my surprise... I just tried my BT keyboard and it works as it is supposed to... But from time to time start acting on me... Today I tried and its worst... I am rebooting the phone
PLEASE FIX VIDEO RECORDING and BT conections
jb 6.2.B.0.211 released.hope bugs are fixed
Bluetooth seems to be unstable with 6.2.B.0.200. Streaming over bluetooth stops ocassionally. Phone calls hang up, and I have reconnect issues as well. I have to manually connect to the bluetooth device many times.
OK this problem just happened to me a couple of days ago...
The weird thing is that it happened with a mini jack standard 3.5mm cable (plugged to an aux in, car stereo) AND also happened using bluetooth with some Altec Lansing Portable Speakers...
Volume Up did not responded until a reboot was made... I had to volume down and then slide on screen to turn up the volume...
And when I had it plug to the Aux In, the Power key also stopped responding, except when I forced shut down (Power + Volume Up)
This is very annoying...
For us in Venezuela, which is an incresing market for Samsung, and now a little bit of Sony... we have not received the .211 update... This and video lag MUST be fixed...
dquilon support my post: http://talk.sonymobile.com/message/493726#493726
I'm from Venezuela too and I don't have the .211 update either...
Thx
The phone can drop the sound in the bluetooth headphones after 10 - 20 min conversation and you have to switch the sound to the speaker and then back to bluetooth again to resume the conversation.
This bug is also seen in Xperia V.
Ok, good to know, I will see if it reproduces in my device...
What I do find incredibly annoying is the way to access Recent Apps by double tapping the home button... it should have stayed the way it was, since it is also the same way with most android devices across brands...
Sony should have used a long tap for the menu buton or something similar to invoke Google Now...
really a bad move...
And a minor complain, the Calendar widget now occupies a minimum of 3x2 space... where it used to be 2x2... oddly, when I updated my wife's Acro S she had the widget already set to 2x2... and it stayed that way... though you can't add another one like that.
