amaysim (Australian carrier provider) sim card not registering in ION Lt28i

Hi, I'm having issues trying to connect to the 'amaysim' (australian) network on my Sony Xperia Ion. The sim works in the samsung galaxy s2 but not in my Ion. I have used other sims of other networks work in my Ion, but having trouble with this particular network.

I have tried to search for the network, but the Ion can't seem to see the amaysim network.

Any tips? or is this an issue regarding the network not recognising the Ion as this phone is not yet released in Australia officially.

Make sure it's not on WCDMA mode only (Settings > wireless & networks > mobile networks > network mode) in case amaysim doesn't have 3G support.

It looks like amaysim runs on Optus, which uses the 900/1800 Mhz frequency which the phone supports. Have you specifically tried an Optus SIM just in case?

Let me know how that goes.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I tried all the different network modes and it didn't seem to make a difference.

The optus sims work fine, and detects the optus network fine.

I have a feeling that the amaysim SIM card is not compatible with the ION, I've tried both their normal sized sim's and MicroSims. Are they're known types of sim cards that are not compatible with the Xperia Ion perhaps?

Hi Jeff,

I just went and purchased a pre-paid Optus SIM to test whether their new sims work on the ION or not.

I also purchased a DODO sim which is also on the Optus Network.....

Results - None of the NEW Optus Networked Sims are being detected in the ION. So Optus, Amaysim & DODO aren't being detected in the phone at all.

I tried to get the specs of the sim card but the call center couldn't help me with that information.

Is there a hardware issue in ION that won't detect certain sims?

A lot of the companies that have good deals in Australia are on the Optus Network unfortunately, so it's worth while that this issue to be resolved.

Initially i thought the Amaysim network wasn't being detected, but I was wrong, it's the sim format that is not compatible with the Xperia Ion.

So if anyone know's a solution to this please let me know. Thanks heaps!!

Kind regards,

Hiro

Hey Jeanne,

I haven't yet found a solution to our problem but I've decided to go with a mobile phone company called Lebara. They're with vodafone network and I've been getting pretty good reception wherever I've been so far, including the internet services, despite their bad reviews in service, it seems they've really fixed up they're services.

Lebara have an awesome pre-paid going on atm, $29.95 unlimited calls and texting and 3Gb data for every 30 days. I ported over my mobile No. in 30min over the net and I've had no issues since. Hope this helps you out.

Sim cards for them are only $2 and available at all the 7/11 stores and most cinvinience stores have them too. I think most supermarkets sell them too and u just activate it over the net.

I'm back after a long delay, apologies.

The LT28i will not work with amaysim. The LT28h is the Australian approved device for your area. An LT28h with the approved software will work.

Since the LT28i wasn't meant for sale in Australia, we can guarantee its functionality.

Sorry to be the barer of bad news, but this is the situation as it stands. There will not be software for Australia to work with the LT28i.
