I have an Xperia Arc S with the simlock removed.
From my searches on these forums, it seems that I have to have the simlock removed before allowing the bootloader to be unlocked.
What I haven't found is how to go about getting the bootloader unlock status changed from no to yes.
Can anyone help?

you can NOT change this, this is because your carrier/network requested the bootloader to be locked, it doesn't matter if you unlock the SIM lock you can NOT unlock the bootloader at all, this is not up to Sony but your carrier.
I assume you mean the original carrier? I've changed a few times since buying the phone.
Indeed the original carrier

I don't have any information regarding why this is only possible in certain countries but perhaps it's for legal reasons or operator restrictions.
If your local Sony Xperia support can't assist you with unlocking the phone then i can't help you. If you want a phone with an unlockable bootloader i recommend that you purchase a phone without any operator branding or SIM lock. If you buy the phone from an operator you may not be able to unlock the bootloader in it.
